Goonies never say die

Some thoughts on movies I’ve watched in the last few days (I’ve been watching too many movies)

Tron—This movie is very psychedelic. I liked that Jeff Bridges didn’t end up with the girl, that was sort of cool. (Does Jeff Bridges ever end up with the girl?) Also, that now I can finally see the sequel.

The Goonies—This is a great movie. My only regret is that I didn’t see it earlier in my life because I think it would have helped me in those terrifying preteen years. I am not as cool as the Goonies but I could have at least had something to aspire to. I didn’t like that it made fun of the chubby kid. But Goonies always make mistakes.

Prince of Persia—This movie has a very happy ending, maybe the happiest ending in the history of happy endings, which I suppose is what would be possible for every movie if there was always someone who could (spoiler alert) turn back time to the beginning of the movie and preempt all bad outcomes through his knowledge of, say, his uncle’s (another spoiler! but this movie is not worth seeing so really I’m sparing you) treachery. I’m partial to happy endings in movies, no matter how unlikely, so that worked in its favor, but otherwise I spent most of the movie trying to figure out how Princess whatever-her-name-is does her hair, since it is pretty, but she has thicker hair than I do, so then I started wondering about what my friend Nancy said to me the other day when I asked how I could do my hair like the girl in this BBC series we watched (my interests are predictable), which was that I would need extensions. Because how do extensions really work anyway? I’ve never really understood this. Do they stick to your scalp? Get woven in with other hair? Also, I decided when it came time for the prop person to outfit the Princess with her crystal necklaces and magical dagger, he/she definitely went shopping at the same tie-dye/Grateful Dead bear temporary tattoo/Army surplus spot I frequented in high school. And the store in the mall with the pagan books and the cloaks and crystal balls would have been a good bet for her outfits.
